Wednesday & Thursday, 27./28.01.2010: moving and waiting….

2 Feb

Because the hostal was stil quite loud (full of Brasillian) I moved to the other one. But for that I needed to wait for 12h as I could not enter before. So I went to the cabiñeros to ask if the letter from TNT express did arrived, which wasn’t…
The new hostal (Hostal Cruz de Atacama, Coconao 594) is very clean and with wifi and private bathroom. When I arrived there, I saw a neighbour with a map from "Reise KnowHow". My first thought was correct as Birgit spoke German. Her husband Manfred came a while later and we had a nice disussion about god and the world. The following day was similar, checking around for information about trips one can do around San Pedro de Atacama. Birgit and Manfred had been in the north of Chile and telling about very interesting places.
Thursday evening I finally take the decision, not to take the track via the laguna verde and colorada to Bolivia by bicycle. I had let open the decision until San Pedro, which way to take would be better, as I had the way to El Tation as backup in case the rain season would definitively start or my condition would not allow it.
At the end I guess I have taken a good compromise: I will first book a 4 days trip to Bolivia via the lagunes, the salar the Uyuni (tha salt lake is the biggest reserve of Lithium of the world), the town Uyuni and regress to San Pedro. And as the edge of the salar starts to be partially covered with water, I won’t need to bath the equipment in salt water. Let’see what can be booked.
Manfred and Birgit went early to bed, as they needed to wake early for the geysiers of El Tatio. I met Alexis from Santiago in the kitchen which was very interested about what I was doing and how people thinks about Chile.
Gud N8!
